Singapore Ice Dragons 2016 Tournament

This was the second time Helen Blackwell went to the yearly Singapore Ice Dragons tournament. She was playing for the Jack Frost Team which was her home team in Chiang Mai. Due to disagreements with manager the Jack frost team was disbanded and split into 2 Chiang Mai teams being The Griffins and Phoenix. The Griffins team aligned themselves with Bangkok warriors and later Helen played quite often for Bangkok warriors as a guest player. The rink in Singapore is a long way from main city center but hotel she stayed in was just opposite so easy to get to and from the Ice Rink. Their were teams from as usual all over Asia but event is often joined by teams from Australia and other non Asian countries.

The tournament is one of main Asian youth Ice Hockey fixtures each year along with tournaments in Bangkok, Hong Kong and to a lesser degree in Malaysia and China. Smaller tournaments are held in other parts of Thailand such as Helens home city of Chiang Mai and also at Pattaya. It was one of Helen’s first international tournaments. She was playing in under 10 category and her team won silver. As well as having a great time at the tournament her team organized several outings between matches.

Helen really enjoyed going to Water Park as did all her team mates. Helen also had time to go to Universal Studios with her parents. The team had a great meal at one of most famous chicken restaurants at which around 12-14 parents and team coach as well as all Jack frost team attended. Kids had their own table which meant they did not have to listen to grown ups chatter and could chill out with their own crowd. Although far from city the hotel had a regular shuttle bus into the city and their was also time for Helen’s parents to take her to clarkes Quay which has a number of top restaurants. It was definitely one of the best trips for Helen in her younger age.
